Chamraj Nagar district International Women’s Day

In Chamraj Nagar district International Women’s Day has been observed on 10th of March 2017 at J.H patel Auditorium in Chamrajnagar. More than 1000 women of SHGs and leaders from rural parts of Chamarja Nagar and Gundlupettaluk participated in the celebration.  Rural women who are also agriculture and building construction laborers, women entrepreneurs, Women Share Holders of Farmer Producer Organization participated in the event.

“Development of the any nation will not take place if the women are developed.   Women are equal to men and women are pro active in all field such as Sports, Politics and culture.  It is very meaning full that ODP is being observing the women’s day with the theme of Be bold for change and it will be more meaning full when women are respected in the nation” said Smt. Sneha, Deputy Superintend of Police Kollegal in her inaugural speech.  She inaugurated and addressed the women on the occasion of women’s day ceremony.”

Key note speech was delivered by Smt. Hemalatha, Senior Advocate and Member, National Human rights Commission. She said    “We need to emphasize on bringing the changes and women have to take bold step to bring the changes.  Law is also like flowing water, that will keep on flowing and similarly changes also we need to bring changes in united, expand your avenues, scope and set your visions with a long term.  Speak about surrogate mothers, how this privilege is getting misused and sexual harassment at work place.  The change will not happen until you all come out of your homes and raise your voices together. You will not get the solutions or compensations for the injustices prevailing in society. Unit together and fight for justice.  She motivated and called for the women unity and demonstrate your united strength.

She also said, get the awareness on law and understand how you can solve your problems with the help of law.  Organize consultation and ODP would help you to initiate such efforts.  There is a chances of misusing the law but you all bring the changes towards effective use of law and not allow to misuse of the acts”.

Director of ODP Fr. Staney D Almeda also spoke on the occasion and he said “ Women are capable to work more that 18 hours in a day and they are endure for both pain and pleasure equally.  Hecongratulatedwomen on the eve of women’s day

Ms. Padma H.S, Assistant Professor, Biligiri Collage Yelandur spoke on status of women in  society. Women are seen as weaker section and  they are in vulnerable situation. Violence against women is increasing,  despite of vulnerability she is living.  This has to be changed, She has to lead her life peacefully and reach home safely without any fear.

Sri.Guruswamy, President, KudiyuvaNeerigagiKergaligeneeruTumbisuvaSamsthe spoke on   importance of Women and soil and her role in conservation of soil and water for the next generation.

Demonstration of Voices from Women demanding for the stringent implementation of law that are impacting on their lives

Women holding placards marched around the stage and narration with the tag lines on various issues and related acts was given: Need of the hour to enhance the knowledge on legal issues related to protection of Girl children, Emphasizing on improving the Sex ration and Protect female fetuses in the womb, Demand for strict enforcement of PC and PNDT ACT, Protection for Children from Sexual and molestation, abuse and Assault and mobilization of women to demand stringent actions for perpetuators, POCSO 2012 act for the prevention of child sexual abuse

Stop and eliminate Child Marriage,  Violation of right to survival, Development and Education of the girl child, Be aware of the law and make others to aware and stop the child marriage,  Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (amended ) 2012:

Protest against Dowry, Do not give and Do not take Dowry, Go for Simple marriage:  Stop dowry harassment and dowry deaths and uphold the Right to live with dignity and Respect within the families:  Demand to enforce the Dowry Prohibition Act 1961 and Domestic Violence act 2005-6.

We are against the Sexual Assault on Women: We protest against the rape and sexual abuse in public place and work place and within the families, understand the act of Prevention of Sexual Assault on Women 2013,

Information for change: Let us use the law as a tool for the good governance, Make use of the Right to Information act 2005 for the changes in governance in Local self-government and its administration machinery.

Right to Food: Let us bring the changes in PDS system and be bold for improved services of Food and Civil Supplies System for the prevention starvation and hunger. Let us demand for the of food security   schemes meant for vulnerable and marginalized, deserved communities.  National Food Security act 2013.

Be bold to exercise political power yourself and be bold to take decisions: Effective use of 50% women reservation in Panachyat raj System and be bold to exercise your power and rights of elected women representative, proactive participation in Panchayats:
