Program to conserve natural resource was taken up by ODP as early as 1985 -86 the initial approach was a piece-meat manner with no long term impact and minimal involvement of farming families.

ODP approach towards environment protection program became more integrated in 1989 with increased involvement of people in conservation programs. Integrated Watershed Management Program came into begin where the entire gamut of resource in a watershed were considered for sustainable development and self-sufficiency i.e. land, water, soil, trees farming system and man. 1995 Water cell was initiated, 1999 the cell was renamed as Natural Resource Management Cell and in 2005 It was ones again renamed as Rural Livelihood Resource Cell to give broader development perspective.

ODP has taken up Natural Resource Management programs in 27 areas till now covering 190 villages through which we have made more than 20,000 families of small and marginalized farmers aware of environment issues, conservation aspects, and means of better productivity / Income, linkages development and strength in unity through implementing below mentioned Projects and Program.

Looking at the below mentioned details one can understand the importance of planting a Tree. So far plantation are made through ODP are 11,38,050 numbers of Forestry Plants and 3,67,041 Numbers horticulture Plants

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, “a mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year.”

Acc to McAliney, Mike, A single mature tree can absorb carbon dioxide at a rate of 48 lbs./year and release enough oxygen back into the atmosphere to support 2 human beings.”

Acc to New York Times, “One acre of trees annually consumes the amount of carbon dioxide equivalent to that produced by driving an average car for 26,000 miles.

That same acre of trees also produces enough oxygen for 18 people to breathe for a year.”

Acc to Northwest Territories Forest Management, “A 100-ft tree, 18″ diameter at its base produces 6,000 pounds of oxygen.”

Acc to Canada’s national environmental agency, “On average, one tree produces nearly 260 pounds of oxygen each year. Two mature pounds of oxygen each year. Two mature trees can provide enough oxygen for a family of four.”

There are more than 4,95,000 vehicles are registered in Mysore which release carbon.

ODP feels that the earth and its resources do not belong to those presently alive rather it was received from earlier generations and is to be passed on to future generations hence ODP has taken initiative in planting avenue flowering plants in the Mysore city in a sustainable manner and to scale up to the entire city with the support of governemtn departments, like minded NGO’s NGO’s etc…. through a Movement called “PlanTree” with support of Forest Department and Companies, corporate, Small and Medium Enterprises, general public. Rane (Madras) Ltd have come forward to support this movement.  It has been planned who would like to do return good the Mother of Nature can sponsor a plant which will taken care by ODP for upcoming years, ODP will ensure services through an Interactive Web portal”, through the technical support of “SIPSS Global India Pvt Limited ”,  where the sponsors can interact and understand the progress of this movement participate and create awareness and importance about it.

Through this portal one can register to sponsor a plant,  witness the progress, open platform to share the ideas, place articles in the blog regarding Natural Resource Management. The plantation will be made in different cycle as per the registration made.  To ensure the authenticity of this program of Sustainable avenue plantation we will be sharing the GPS coordinates of the plant, the name of the sponsors will be imprinted on the fencing of that particular tree planted. As well, over the website and an electronic certificate will be provided to acknowledge their good efforts and contribution for encouraging this noble cause to mitigate the climate change and build a clean, green space and best place to live in for us and for future generation .
