President

ODP is completing 30 years of its service to the people of God in Mysore Diocese. Please accept my hearty congratulations and felicitations.

The joys and hopes, the grief’s and anxieties of the people of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these too are the joys and hopes, the grief’s and anxieties of the followers of Christ. Indeed, nothing genuinely human fails to raise an echo in their hearts ………. Finally, man painstakingly searches for a better world, without working with equal zeal for the betterment of his own spirit”. (of G.S. 1,5)

Keeping the above spirit and teaching of Vatican II, the Church goes forward to work for the integral development of the people of God. The Diocese of Mysore established ODP in the year 1984 with the same vision and mission. Today it has well established units in the four districts of Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu. The animators take care of various projects of development in the field of health, sanitation, rain water harvesting, construction of check dams to preserve rain water and thus to maintain the ground water levels. ODP also provides bore wells for drinking water, gives proper awareness to the people on how to prevent diseases, specially HIV/AIDS, and to help the people to become aware of their own dignity as human persons, their rights and duties as persons and above all it empowers women and makes them to take up responsibilities in the society. There are 1779 Mahila Sanghas and 33272 women empowered through these sanghas. It is very encouraging to see so many illiterate women coming to the stage and speaking boldly without fear; women who come forward to fight for any good cause and succeed to get what is due to them in the society and from the government authorities.

As ODP has done enormous service to the people in our diocese, it is a great joy to wish the website launching every success. I pray God’s continued help for a better future of this Organization, so that they are enabled to extend their service to many more marginalized and needy people for many many years to come.
