GVSSMO is the apex federation of farmer groups promoted by the Organization for Development of People (ODP). Established to address natural resource management challenges and foster holistic rural development, it is a platform that empowers farmers, strengthens community institutions, and promotes sustainable livelihoods across village communities.
From watershed committees to a federation of farmers.
Driven by the principles of awareness, unity, self-reliance, and participatory development, GVSSMO works towards resilient rural communities capable of managing their natural resources, enhancing agricultural productivity, and improving socio-economic well-being.
Watershed development begins
Watershed Committees comprising both men and women leaders were established, making clear that long-term community development required stronger grassroots institutions to address a broader spectrum of social, economic, and environmental challenges.
Farmer Self-Help Groups take shape
Following extensive consultations and community discussions, farmer Self-Help Groups (SHGs) were promoted to facilitate integrated village development, and dedicated men's farmer groups were initiated — laying the foundation for a larger collective movement.
GVSSMO is formally established
Recognizing the need for a unified platform, GVSSMO was established with the vision of enabling holistic development through community participation, sustainable agriculture, and livelihood enhancement.
Registered under Karnataka law
The federation was registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960, bearing Registration No. 270/11-12.

Develop need-based linkages with government departments, financial institutions, private sector organizations, and development agencies to leverage resources for community development.
Financial empowerment of farmers
Mobilize and generate adequate capital to support members in agriculture, natural resource management, and income-generating activities through timely financial assistance.
Advocacy and collective representation
Champion the interests of farmers through advocacy aimed at improving pricing mechanisms, market infrastructure, and policy support systems.
