Family Development Project: Restoring Dignity, Transforming Lives

Since 1992, the Organization for the Development of People (ODP) has been dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty through our flagship Family Development Project. In partnership with Save A Family Plan India (SAFPI)—founded by Msgr. Augustine Kandathil in 1965—we operate under a singular, powerful vision: Partnering with the poor for a just world.

We believe that poverty is not just a lack of resources, but a lack of opportunity. Our mission is to identify the most vulnerable members of our society and provide them with the tools, training, and support necessary to achieve self-reliance and lasting dignity.

Our Core Mission

To provide sustained, holistic support to the “poorest of the poor,” empowering them to secure sustainable livelihoods and significantly enhance their quality of life.

The Path to Transformation

Our rigorous selection and development process ensures that support reaches those who need it most and creates a measurable impact:

  • Rigorous Selection: Potential beneficiary families are proposed by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and undergo a multi-tier verification process by field animators, coordinators, and the ODP Family Facilitation team to ensure they meet our specific criteria.
  • Strategic Approval: Final verification is conducted by SAFPI to ensure transparency and alignment with global standards.
  • Capacity Building: Once selected, families receive specialized entrepreneurship training and field-level coaching.
  • Resource Mobilization: We bridge the gap between families and government resources, ensuring they receive every available benefit to supplement their growth.
  • Sustainable Growth: We focus on income-generation activities that allow families to move beyond a hand-to-mouth existence and into a future of financial stability.

Who We Serve

We focus our efforts on the margins of society, prioritizing:

  • Families living in extreme poverty with unstable income sources.
  • Widow-led households and abandoned women raising children alone.
  • Families caring for members with physical or mental disabilities.

Our Impact by the Numbers

Our commitment to “Integrated Development” has yielded life-changing results:
